CLD is a diploma training program that allows Christians from all
cultural walks of life to gain valuable Christian leadership and
bible-based ministry skills. It was created by Golden Gate Baptist
Theological Seminary (GGBTS) nearly 27 years ago, recognizing that
seminary was not always a viable option for Christian’s today—English
would not be enough to address the needs modern churches, training
would need to be offered at the post-high school level (in languages
most useful to the churches and at sites close to the churches),
and at a cost affordable to the students. It is for these very reasons
GGBTS begun Ethnic Leadership Development (as CLD was then called)
to offer basic training to Christian leaders for church planting,
evangelism, and ministry.
Golden Gate authorizes local SBC churches, associations and state
conventions to open CLD centers wherever such training is needed
and adequate resources for that training is available, to provide
relevant meaningful ministry within every cultural and ethnic group.

What
is a CLD Center?
A CLD Center is a school of training establish under cooperation
between GGBTS and a local Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). CLD
Centers are approved by the CLD Office and the Office of Academic
Affairs of Golden Gate based upon that center’s fulfillment
of the standards mandated by the Seminary catalog and CLD Operations
manual. MCC has taken the liberty of fulfilling such mandates (What’s
special about MCC). Such centers fulfill the seminary missions
to train leaders for the churches by recruiting students, enlisting
qualified faculty and offering approved courses in the CLD diploma
programs.
